Your journey begins at Dove Creek Ranch and Equine Rescue in Canyon, Texas where you can tour the ranch and rescue and have an opportunity to meet some of the horses and hear their stories. Dove Creek Ranch and Equine Rescue is nestled in a beautiful and scenic canyon of the Llano Estacado. Along with meeting the horses and barnyard companions of Dove Creek, you might also see one of the many wildlife creatures that share the land.
Tour Options:
Basic Tour -
(2 hours) Your tour guide will give you a close-up
look at Dove Creek's highly accredited horse rescue
and adoption facility. A member of the Global
Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, DCER is home to
horses who need a safe place to go to heal or stay until
they find their loving home. While visiting, you will
be given an opportunity to meet and spend time with
some of the animals on the ranch. Morning tours will
usually see staff and volunteers doing daily chores
such as feeding, grooming, and cleaning facilities.
Horse training happens throughout the day on most
weekdays and you might get to see this in progress,
but it is not guaranteed.
Nature Walk -
(1 hour) Your tour guide will tell the story of the
land and point out all the critters and plants along
the journey. On the land there have been sightings
of deer, rabbits, coyotes, bobcats, wild turkeys,
hawks, and many other species of birds. Dove Creek
is also home to a variety of Texas wildflowers and
fauna. You might see horses on this tour while you
learn about the Rescue, but this is a different tour
than our "Basic Tour". We will provide a cursory
talk about who we are and what we do yet the focus
will be on nature, the canyon, and hiking.
Led By Horses program - Equine Facilitated Learning and Coaching Or EFLC has grown with several offerings by Laurie Higgins-Kerley and her team of facilitators, serving individual clients as well as small groups. They have held workshops and retreats on topics such as Grief, Navigating Transitions, and finding your Soul's purpose. EFLC is an experiential journey where the horse, as co-teacher, assists people in identifying where they are in life and what steps are necessary to move forward, revealing their path with heart. Deepening emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and purpose, partnering with Horse inspires compassionate and courageous action resulting in the cultivation of authentic power and influence.
