In May, 2012 owner/pit master Mike Havens left a 30-year career at Missouri Valley to start his own Bar-B-Q Haven at 7028 S. Western St., near Farmers Avenue in Amarillo. Besides working in positions from payroll to management, Havens had also cooked for company functions.

“I've always known my calling was to be doing what I'm doing right now,” he said. “I love people and I love cooking, and it just seemed to be the fit.

“Now, I make less money and put in more hours, but I'm a heck of a lot happier. So far, it's the best thing I ever did.”

Mike's daughter Noelle Havens is also an integral part of the business as a Manager and Pit-Master.

Spicy Mike's sells sandwiches, plates, ribs, meat by the pound and caters to large groups or small.
